“You will remember a bird completely covered in oil.  In the eyes, you can see there’s something wrong.  And you can study it.  The eyes always tell a story.”

DENIS PAQUIN, deputy director of photography at the Associated Press, remarking on photographs of oil-soaked pelicans on East Grande Terre Island, LA. June 3; the photos, each and every one emotionally devastating, were taken by the AP’s Charlie Riedel and may be viewed here.
This is what BP doesn’t want the world to see.  This is what BP is downplaying with sound bites and photo ops.  This is what BP is really doing: killing its workers and destroying our coastline and erasing life, one oil-choked animal at a time.
This is fucking sad.  And BP must be held fully accountable.

Horrible (and I hate that the media’s downplaying this, too).

My heart, for real, cannot take it.

The saddest thing for me is seeing something, whether human or animal, suffer due to the carelessness of human beings. This animal has never done anything to us, and here is the human race, taking and taking from the earth, with the lives of other creatures only second to our desires. For a long time, I have always felt that there was something wrong with people… Animals are so much better than us. They don’t destroy their own earth, and only take what they need. There must be a reason why I have an affinity towards animals. It’s moments like these.
